Do our Senators listen?

Today on the radio, I was listening to Diane Fienstien talk about the "recovery plan" that she wants to thrust on the American people. She said that she has received 85,000 contacts from people in California telling her to vote against the 700+ billion dollar bailout.

What she said next was even more astounding... she said that we, the American people, don't understand what the Senate is trying to do, and that the country NEEDS this bailout. But wait... that wasn't all!

Then she proceeded to tell how she tacked on some pork barrel spending to the bill! California needs a light rail system! And the Federal Government should fund it! Wait! It gets better!

Barbara Boxer then states that she has added onto the bill that insurance companies are going to be required to treat mental health problems as well! Adding another 3.2 billion dollars to the plan! Where will this end??

Listen up politicians... your constituents would rather see a 10 year depression of the likes of the 1930's, before they want socialism thrust permanently on us. Let bad business FAIL. Bailing out bad business and banking practices can only lead to more of the same... and more tax bailouts... and more taxation of our people.

Let them fail. We don't need to spend money we don't have!

Amandi you let them all fail as you so boldly describe and you will be posting about how long the foodstamp line is at your local handout center.

You carrying a visa/mcard? You check your credit limit lately?

You try and get a car loan?

You have 40% to put down on a house-try and get a morgtage?

What the politicans are doing is despicable but a 1930's style depression is far far far worse. It wont effect the "rich" that everyone rails against theyll be fine-but the first to get eviscerated will be the poor, followed by the middle class, followed by the upper middle class.

I promise you-your ideology will be shattered when you go on the unemployment list for 2-3 years.

Swallow it, deal with it, get it approved, and then work to fix and fight the system

Socalism is NOT the answer. I don't use credit cards. I don't get car loans...

I live within my means.

This is a serious problem we have in the states is that for years people have lived beyond their means, buying stuff they don't need on credit they don't have.

We have established a long path towards this... and well... it is happening whether I like it or not.

But my ideology will not be shattered. It is what I believe, and I am willing to pay the price for what I believe.

We shall see....

If you dont have a job and cant pay your bills, feed your family and wind up going on bended knee to collect aid from the gov. does that mean you've still upheld your ideology?

If you collect unemployment insurance?

If you apply for assistance for medical expenses?

If you get food stamps? or reduced lunch prices for your kids at school?

It's one thing to talk about it its quite another to see how that manifests itself in real life.

I hate the bailout, I hate the threat of not being able to provide for my family more.

P.S. you still have open commenting blocked..

I think it's interesting. Before the original House vote many were getting calls from constituents saying don't pass it. When they didn't, they were getting calls saying they need to pass it.

Even though you may respect Amandi's opinion and it maybe well-informed and thought out, doesn't mean everyone thinks the same. You may hate a bill, but others see merit in it.

From what I've read, the "bail out" isn't even necessarily designed to free up credit, which is what the issue will become for small business owners and Joe Six-Pack like myself (mmm beer!). In my opinion, the government should regulate the base of our economy and protect workers from being exploited (ie why unions came to be), protect our borders, from natural disaster (the effects of), and I'm really not opposed to national health care because I would like people to call 911 and not be in massive debt from the Ambulance ride.

I also want The Federal Reserve gone, it is NOT a Federal Agency and puts the country and the people in it in a cycle debt that is terrible.

Just ponder those things for awhile, it's not taking "care of" the people it's really "protecting" them.
